Runner-up on "American Idol" Willie Spence suffered injuries in a car accident and passed away on Tuesday. He was 23.


According to the local news source Douglas Now, the great crooner was present in Tennessee when the incident occurred.


The show released a statement on Twitter saying, "We are heartbroken by the demise of our beloved 'American Idol' family member, Willie Spence." "He will be much missed. He was a tremendous talent who brightened up every place he visited. We offer our condolences to his family.

In honor of Spence's Season 19 participation, Katharine McPhee, with whom she sang a duet, shared videos on her Instagram Story.


Above a video of her and Spence meeting, she wrote, "I received extremely bad news tonight. "Sweet @williespenceofficial died in a traffic collision. 23 years old just. Nothing is ever guaranteed, and life is so unfair.


"May God grant you peace, Willie. It was a pleasure to sing with you and to know you.”


The final video Spence shared, in which he can be seen singing a Christian song in a car just before the accident, has been reposted by McPhee, 38, along with a number of broken-heart emoticons.


She said, "He posted this just before the accident [sobbing emoji]."


Spence's article was inundated with comments regarding the unfortunate incident from fans and followers.


"Friend, fly, sing with the angels, and dance beneath the stars! RIH," one person said.
