Depending on a probable second opinion, he might have surgery as soon as Thursday, a source told ESPN.

Smith fell to the ground while attempting to make a block on linebacker Leighton Vander Esch after getting hurt on a running play. Initial testing revealed that his left knee's ACL was intact, and he was able to walk to the locker room without any assistanc

After practice, Smith was seen leaving the locker room and didn't have a limp. Later, he had a conversation with left guard Connor McGover

Like he normally does, he gave me a good comforting grunt, McGovern remarked. "That's the only reason I can understand his grunts after playing next to him for so long. I believe he is well.

A glaring hole is left on the offensive line after the departure of Smith, an eight-time Pro Bowler and defender of Dak Prescott's blind side. The offensive line was already having issues prior to the Sept. 11 opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tyler Smith was selected in the first round by Dallas as their future left tackle, but during training camp and the first two preseason games, he was mainly employed at left guard. Smith missed the previous two practices due to an ankle problem as well.

Josh Ball, who was chosen by the Cowboys in the fourth round of last year's draft but was unable to play as a rookie due to an ankle ailment, was used at left tackle by the starting lineup when Smith was injured.

Terence Steele, who replaced La'el Collins, the right tackle dismissed in the offseason, is already settling in for Dallas. McCarthy stated that McGovern would start the season if it began today despite Tyler Smith and McGovern competing for the left guard position.

Tyler Smith played left tackle during organized team drills and minicamp. Last year at Tulsa, he started nine of the games at left tackle while starting 12 of them. He has good strength and physical attributes, but the Cowboys wanted him to concentrate on one position during training camp.

With fewer than three weeks until the Buccaneers' debut, circumstances might change.

Tyron Smith has suffered a series of injuries recently, and this one is the latest. Because to knee, ankle, neck, and elbow problems, he hasn't played a full season since 2015. Due to neck surgery in 2020, he missed 14 games. Due to an ankle injury and a time on the COVID list, he missed six games last year.
