The five most important announcements from Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked in August 2022

Samsung has just finished its latest Galaxy Unpacked event, where it announced two foldables, new smartwatches, and an update to its Galaxy Buds Pro line, as expected. While the company's announcement didn't surprise us, the updates appear to be quality refinements across the board — though, as always, you should wait for full reviews of the products to see if they're truly meaningful improvements.

The Z Flip 4 looks similar to its predecessor — and yes, it still flips down like old-school flip phones. However, there are a few new software tricks, such as seeing selfie previews on the cover screen with the same aspect ratio as the image itself and fast charging, which can charge the phone up to 50% in about 30 minutes. The phone starts at $999, and you can preorder it now before it becomes available on August 26th.

THE GALAXY Z FOLD 4 IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENT, BUT IT HAS BETTER CAMERAS.

Samsung isn't doing much different with the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The design remains largely unchanged, though it is slightly lighter than before, and Samsung made significant changes to the camera array, including a new 50-megapixel main sensor. However, with a starting price of $1,799, it is still an expensive phone. It is now available for preorder, and it will be available on August 26th.

THE BATTERIES IN THE GALAXY WATCH 5 SMARTWATCHES ARE LARGER.

Samsung's Galaxy Watch 4 series received criticism for its poor battery life, but the company hopes to remedy this with larger batteries in the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro. It also has a body temperature sensor, which is rumored to be coming to the Apple Watch this year. The Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are now available for preorder and will ship on August 26th.

THE GALAXY BUDS 2 PRO ARE A LITTLE PRICEY, BUT THEY HAVE A NEW DESIGN AND SUPPORT HIGH-FI AUDIO.

The new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro from Samsung feature a new design that is 15% smaller than the original pair and supports 24-bit hi-fi audio over Bluetooth. But those improvements come at a cost: the buds cost $229.99, a $30 premium over the original Galaxy Buds Pro. You can preorder them now for the August 26th release date.

MORE RECYCLED MATERIALS ARE USED IN SAMSUNG'S NEW PRODUCTS.

Samsung also discussed how it incorporates recycled materials into the designs of the event's products. It now repurposes fishing nets in the materials used to make the Z-series foldables and the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, for example. According to Samsung, recycled fishing nets are now used in 11 of its devices.
