When two trees fell over a car at a family's lakeside campground in Maine, a 9-year-old was killed.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, a passing storm uprooted two trees and brought them falling into a campsite belonging to a 9-year-old girl's family in southeast Maine. According to a news statement from the sheriff's office, Hallie Oldham of Poland, Maine, perished when one of the trees fell across the roof of a car where she had sought refuge. The incident occurred on Thursday, July 21 at 4:15 p.m. as a strong storm passed over the Sebago Lake Family Campground in Standish, according to the sheriff's office. Portland, Maine is 20 miles to the west of Standish. The sheriff's office states that at the time, "Jarod and Jennifer Oldham were getting ready to leave the campground with their kids to escape the storm." "Rapid winds uprooted two sizable pine trees just before the Oldham family left. The truck of the Oldham family was smashed after one tree struck the awning of their camper. The second tree smashed into the car that Hallie, her mother, younger sister, and herself were riding in. Hallie's father wasn't yet in the vehicle.

The sheriff's office reported that. Given several traffic bottlenecks in almost every direction, responding to the emergency at the campground was challenging. Numerous trees were uprooted and/or split in half, causing significant damage to other camp sites, as well as to nearby homes. Student at Poland Community School was Hallie Oldham. In addition to playing basketball and soccer, she also enjoyed playing games and spending time outdoors with her sister Kylie and her family, according to her obituary. She was a wonderful student at PCS and will be remembered for her smile and generosity, the school wrote in a statement.
