The first official trailer for Pinocchio depicts A fresh interpretation of the classic by Guillermo del Toro

Following numerous teasers on Twitter, Netflix has today debuted the latest trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, which depicts a dark and lovely telling of the traditional story with the director's signature exquisite attention to detail.

A brief teaser at the start of the year gave us our first look at the stop-motion movie. Ewan McGregor plays Cricket, David Bradley plays Geppetto, and Gregory Mann plays the title character. Pinocchio is being co-directed by Mark Gustafson and Del Toro, who is best known for movies like The Shape of Water, Crimson Peak, and Pan's Labyrinth. Del Toro has previously referred to the film as a passion project.

In 2020, he claimed, "After years of pursuing this dream idea, I found my perfect partner in Netflix." We spent a lot of time selecting a wonderful cast and crew, and we've been fortunate to have ongoing backing from Netflix, which has allowed us to work slowly and methodically while hardly missing a beat. We all have a deep love and enthusiasm for animation and think it's the perfect medium to portray this timeless tale in a brand-new way.

The film is a part of Netflix's recent mini-stop-motion revival. Along with Pinocchio, the streaming service has also produced new Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit films, as well as the anthology The House, which was released early this year.
