Beyoncé Drops New Album 'Renaissance,' Calls Out Leakers

Beyoncé released her seventh solo album, "Renaissance," as planned on Thursday night, calling out those who leaked the album two days early and thanking her fans for their patience.

"So, the album leaked, and you all actually waited until the proper release time to enjoy it all together," she wrote. "I'd never seen anything like it before." I can't express how grateful I am for your love and protection.

"I appreciate you calling out anyone who was attempting to enter the club early," she continued. "It means everything to me."

Variety will publish a review of the album, which the singer describes as the first of a "three-part project" in the coming days.

Beyoncé had not released any videos from the new album at the time of this article's publication, despite the fact that the first single, "Break My Soul," had been out for more than a month.

It appears that a video collection is a third chapter of the project, which was originally supposed to consist of two albums. Beyoncé released a 65-minute film containing multiple music videos alongside her previous solo album, "Lemonade," in 2016.

Beyoncé revealed the album's cover art earlier this month, which depicts her posing regally atop the silhouette of a luminous horse.

Beyoncé wrote in a note accompanying the artwork, "Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and find escape during a scary time for the world." It gave me a sense of freedom and adventure at a time when little else was moving.

"My intention was to create a safe haven, free of judgment." A sanctuary from perfectionism and overthinking. "A place to scream, let go, and feel free," she wrote. "It was a lovely journey of discovery." I hope you enjoy this music. I hope it motivates you to let go of the wiggle. Ha! And to feel as distinct, strong, and seductive as you are."

Beyoncé surprised fans by releasing the album's first single, "Break My Soul," late last month. Big Freedia's vocals are featured on the track, which channels '90s house music beats over a sample of Robin S's 1993 hit "Show Me Love." The first edition of "Renaissance" is said to include both dance and country-leaning tracks, though it's unclear whether the country songs will be released as a separate album or as part of the first edition.

Since 2016's "Lemonade," Beyoncé has released four albums, none of which are full studio solo albums. In 2018, she released "Everything Is Love" with her husband Jay-Z as the Carters; in April 2019, she released "Homecoming," an album of her explosive 2018 Coachella headlining performance; and that summer, she released "The Lion King: The Gift," a companion album to the Disney film that featured several new Beyoncé songs, with a deluxe edition of that album featuring three additional tracks released a year later.
